AsimmètricoSide Table
Asymmetry, composed in stone.
Asimmètrico is a sculptural piece from the Studio IB Milano Signature Collection: a side table in calacatta viola marble with a polished finish, designed in Milan and handcrafted in Italy.
Studio IB Milano is a design studio based in Milan, creating sculptural marble furniture and bespoke interiors for private clients, architects and interior designers. The story
Asimmètrico plays with imbalance: a round top of veined marble rests on cylinders of different heights, turned from solid stone and arranged off-centre. The composition feels casual, almost accidental, yet every proportion is measured — a small side table that reads as an architectural still life beside the sofa or bed.
Form and proportion
Proportion is integral to the design of Asimmètrico. In the listed format — Ø 70 × H 45 cm — the design considers the low proportion, the carved volume and the way the table relates to nearby seating. The calacatta viola marble and polished finish are not additions to the form: they make its volumes, surfaces and the natural movement of the stone legible.
For a bespoke version, diameter and height, stone selection, number and placement of cylinders and polished or honed finish can be considered together. The conversation begins with the space and desired proportion, then develops through dialogue, drawing and proportion studies in close exchange with the workshop. Each choice is treated as part of one composition, allowing the piece to respond to its setting without losing the gesture that defines Asimmètrico.
