When Furniture Becomes Part of the Architecture
A table can do more than occupy a room. Its scale can define where people gather; its silhouette can bring balance to an open space; its material can change the way light moves across an interior. This is how we approach architectural design furniture at Studio IB Milano: as objects designed in close dialogue with the spaces around them.

01
Form begins with function
A sculptural piece still has a practical purpose. A dining table needs to accommodate the people who use it. A console must sit comfortably within a passage or entrance. These requirements establish the proportions of a design, but they do not determine its character.
That emerges through decisions about shape, visual weight and material. A quiet surface may rest on an expressive base. A strong geometric form may reveal subtle movement in the stone. The aim is to create furniture that feels considered from every angle and natural in its setting.
02
Stone gives every piece its own character
In marble furniture made in Italy, the choice of stone is a design decision. Two pieces made to the same dimensions will never look exactly alike: veining, tone and variation give each one a distinct presence. We consider how these qualities will appear across the finished form before work begins with our specialist Italian artisans.
The same attention guides our custom marble tables. Dimensions are developed around the room and the way clients live, while the stone, finish and construction are chosen together. The result is a table conceived for a particular setting, with a presence that extends beyond its everyday function.
03
From one object to an interior
Furniture can also establish the language of an entire space. The proportions of a table, the warmth of a stone or the restraint of a sculptural form can inform the materials and details around it. Through our bespoke interior design services, we carry that thinking from an individual object into the wider interior.
For those seeking custom luxury furniture in Milan, our work begins with a conversation about the space and the people who will use it. Each commission is developed by Studio IB Milano and realised with Italian makers who understand the possibilities and demands of natural stone.
To us, bespoke design made in Italy is the meeting of a personal idea, a precise understanding of space and the character of a material that can never be repeated exactly.
